Where found: in bed beside producer Justin Balough in upstairs front bedroom, died of slit throat. Her body was mutilated and two eights were painted on the wall of the bedroom with her blood.

Brienne Cross was found lying on couch. Cause of death exsanguination due to slit throat.

Looking for a Soul Mate: Compatibility, Job One

In Brienne Cross’s Reality TV Show, “Soul Mate,” Compatibility is Key

How do you become someone’s Best Friend Forever, after a few short weeks together in a houseful of competitors? With nineteen other people vying for the honor?

Sure, there was the talent portion of the program, but everyone there had the chops; they’d already proven their mettle as backup singers, even lead singers. (Trent Sligo, cut early on, had his own band and some success.)

So how did Brienne Cross cut her potential Best Friend Forever and sometime-backup singer from a herd of attractive, eager, talented and hungry individuals vying for the appellation, “Soul Mate?” Compatibility? Or was this all scripted, the outcome never in doubt?

Sources close to the show say Brienne made the decision. She narrowed it down to the last four contestants—two male and two female—and kept mum about the possible outcome.

Because no video of the Reality TV show’s taping has been released, and will likely never be released, all we have to go on is the four people who were left. The four people who died with her.

Sadly, instead of one contestant, all four of these beautiful young people will forever be linked to Brienne Cross.

Aspen Couple Provided House for Singer Brienne Cross’s Soul Mate reality TV show

ASPEN, COLORADO. Real estate moguls Jerry and Claire Killian will rent out their Aspen home to Brienne Cross for her reality show, “Soul Mate,” scheduled to air on Fox this fall. “The house is perfect,” said Justin Balough of In Stride Productions, producer of “Soul Mate,” labeling the mansion “a real find—well equipped to provide a pristine, beautiful setting for the compelling story we have to tell.”

Recently placed on the market for a 7.2-million-dollar-price tag, the log-and-stone home boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, one powder room, an indoor pool and Jacuzzi, wine cellar and wet bar, media room, and three fieldstone fireplaces. Profiled in the Winter Issue of Aspen Peak Magazine, the riverfront home is famous for its three decks that cantilever over Castle Creek “like shuffled cards,” as well as its cozy privacy—the house is hidden from the road by “a copse of aspen.”

Mr. Killian, well-known in the area for selling spectacular multi-million dollar homes, said today, “Claire and I are very excited about this. We think it can only add to the cachet of the house and the surrounding area.”

Lining Up for the Soul Mate Reality TV Show

In the spring of 2009, people from all walks of life lined up in Houston, L.A., Phoenix, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver, and Chicago for a chance to be a contestant on the new reality TV show, “Soul Mate.” Most of them were young, many were college kids, but one woman, interviewed by KSAZ-TV in Phoenix, was 55 years old. When asked why she wanted to become Brienne Cross’s “Soul Mate,” she said quite seriously, “We have this bond.” Then she broke into a lusty rendition of “I Did it My Way.”

She was not chosen for the show.

In fact, the oldest person on “Soul Mate” was twenty-nine-year-old Dawn Peltier, who was also, coincidentally, the first one voted out of the house.

All the contestants had to be talented enough to sing back-up on Brienne Cross’s next record, Marfa Lights, and each of them prepared two songs. While this token portion of the program was gotten over with quickly, the latter part of the show concentrated solely on who would end up as Brienne’s Best Friend Forever. This was the fun part: clubbing at J-Bar, field trips to Caribou Jewelers for Cartier or Audemar Picquet. Or Boogie’s Diner for jeans, followed by booze-fueled dinners at Nobu’s.

According to sources close to the show, there is plenty of footage of the contestants: their performances, the outings and the tasks, as well as the inevitable tensions on the set. But this footage has not been released to the public, and may never be, even after the homicide investigation is completed.
